They are most often used in cases where frequent adjustments are needed or when there is a need to have the ability to remove screw and reinsert easily. A common example is the assembly of fixtures or tooling that may need to be swapped out frequently. Sometimes these are used in cases where the space is to tight to fit a fastening tool.
