Spyderco’s Sage Series is a family of knives that showcases the innovative lock mechanisms that have helped define modern folding knife technology. The latest addition to this unique series is the Sage 5, which highlights Spyderco’s own patented Compression Lock mechanism. This groundbreaking lock uses a split liner in one of the handle scales to engage an upward-facing ramp on the tang of the blade. There the liner is compressed between the blade ramp and the stop pin. In addition to being substantially stronger than an ordinary liner lock mechanism, the Compression Lock also allows the knife to be safely closed with only one hand without placing your fingers in the path of the edge.
