Castle nuts get their name from the fact that they resemble a castle’s parapet. When a cotter pin is inserted through the slots and a hole in the fastener, the nut will be locked into place and can resist loosening due to vibration. Without inserting a pin or wire to lock the nut in place, a castle nut functions just like a standard hex nut.

  • Size: 1/4 inch-28
  • Standard hex nut with a slotted round section on one end
  • Can be locked into place by inserting a cotter pin through the slots and a hole in the fastener
  • Screws onto a bolt, cap screw or threaded rod of the same thread size
  • Use with washers to help distribute the load (not included)
