Binding/binder posts, also called barrel nuts, are internally threaded and accept a machine screw of the same diameter and thread size. Since the head of a binding post sits nearly flush against the surface, they can be used in applications where there may not be room for a protruding screw tip and hex nut. They can also be used as a substitute for rivets in some cases.
